......"WHO IS CUPID BY THE WAY?".......





....Who is Cupid by the way?......


     Cupid is known as the God of love.  He is the son of Mercury, messenger of Gods and Venus, Goddess of love and beauty.  The name Cupid comes from the Latin word "Cupido"  meaning Desire, as well as his Greek equivalent Eros, which means "sexual desire".
      As he always played a role in the celebrations of heart and love, this young lad is also most famous valentines symbol.  Cupid is usually depicted as the mischievous, winged young boy, whose arrows upon piercing the hearts of his victims would cause them to fall madly, deeply in love.
     Legend tells the story of Cupid and his lonely, mortal maiden, Psyche.  Venus was envious of her beauty that the ordered his son Cupid to punish her.  But instead, the young man tell deeply in love with Psyche and took her as his wife.  But as a mortal being, Psyche was not allowed to took at them.  Curiously got into Psyche one night and she at a lamp planning to get a glimpse of his love one Cupid.  But then a drop of hot oil felt on Cupid's shoulder that awakened him and caused him to fly away as her punishment.  Psyche depressed, searched for and wide for her lover, found herself as Venus slave, and was treated with most malice by the goddess.  Wishing to destroy the moral, Venus gave her heavy tasks, each harder and more treacherous than the previous one. Lastly, she was tasked to take the little box to the under world to get some beauty of Proserpine, queen of the realms of death.  She was warned not to open the box.  But like any other mortal, she was tempted to open it.  She lifted the lid and instead of finding beauty, she discovered a deadly close of sheep.
      As Cupid has found her unconscious on the ground, he gathered all the sheep from her body and placed it back in the box.  Cupid forgave her as well as his mother,Venus.  She eventually became an immortal.  Psyche was then made a goodness.
      Today, Cupid is most popular of the love signs, and is usually represented by two hearts pierced by Cupid's arrows.
